مهسا بیگلو-I was once Sisyphus
tell her I say hi!
This experimental documentary-style film is based on the long-distance relationship between my sister and me. I found another pair of sisters whose bond closely mirrored ours—they are living the before, while my sister and I are living the after of the same story: separation and migration.
Ayana, 10, and her sister Azma, 16, are second-generation Bangladeshi Americans living in a Bengali-populated neighborhood in Brooklyn. Their relationship reflects that of my sister Mahdis, 23, and me, 29, who are now separated by my immigration to the U.S.
The film unfolds through a two-channel video installation, interweaving these two narratives—one of presence, one of absence—across Tehran and Brooklyn. Blurring the line between fiction and reality, it explores the complexities of sisterhood, distance, and belonging, showing how migration reshapes intimacy and memory.
